LONG BEACH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
Once again this event, sponsored by SVS Fine Jewelry, and featuring dozens of films and "Taste on the Beach' was a hit. The films covered modern topics - opioids, suicide, surfing, the digital age - "Life Hack", the coal industry ""From the Ashes",suicide, arson, rehab,  with the grand finale of  wines, vodka and culinary tastings in the huge white tent.

There were shorts, animation features, and documentaries. Emmy-nominated Nancy Cartwright, and producer of the film "In Search of Fellini" was expected to attend, along with  tv, radio personalities, athletes and supporting politicians including Todd Kaminsky, NY state senator and Jack Schnirman,
City Manager of Long Beach. ( my distant relative Charles Theofan used to hold hat position, and
his funeral was attended by half of all Long Beach).

.I never knew that each USA baseball team has its own wines.  Gary served NY Yankees
cabernet, - very smoothe. Hundreds of families, friends, supporters, drank and tasted in the
huge tent, while entertainment was held on the stage. In the tent, The Guardavidas entertained playing upbeat favorites while hundreds mixed and mingled, watched the sunset and had
the most glorious time of the entire summer.
Dont miss this event ever.!!!!!!.

A WALK ON THE MOON
50 YEARS AGO -  we listened to Astronaut  Neil Armstrong say " that's one small  step for man, one giant leap for mankind" as he took his first step on the moon. That was the Apollo 11 mission also carrying "Buzz' Aldrin and Michael Collins.  Recently,  Sotheby's ,held a Space Exploration  suction  where  the  Lunar sample return bag holding moon dust (once owned by Nancy Carlson) sold for one million, five hundred thousand dollars.  $1,500,000.
Brice Potter was there buying moonshot  photographs for his Father, an astronomer.

************BEST EXHIBIT IN NEW YORK EVER******
PATEK- PHILLIPPE WATCHES AT CIPRIANI, 42 ST

QUEEN VICTORIA wore a Patek-Phillippe pendant watch ; the KING OF SIAM, had one
and JOHN F. KENNEDY had  a clock on his desk.  In this amazing exhibit, there were 10
rooms filled with hundreds of watches,,  watchmakers,  a film, photographs,a replica of the office
in Lake Geneva,   -  some diamond and gold encrusted watches, , some hand-painted enamel scenes  watches  with complications and grand complications,   and then an interactive room where you sat in the chair with a virtural reality mask and rod in your hand that allowed you to bring some 30 different mechanical parts together to form the interior of a watch. And when you were through with that you became a part in the interior of the watch, like a molecule watching the cogs and wheels are they turned around you , like a new metropolis of moving  parts. An unbelievable experience.

THANK YOU FOR THIS EXPERIENCE!!!!

There is a radical change in GREEK art  after 300 BC. Classicism changes. We find emotions are expressed in raw feelings, gestures, expressions exaggerated features starting in the Hellinistic Age,  in the wake of Alexander the Great's conquest.  Art became more naturalistic, expressing EMOTIONS..

In the earliest  Greek plays in the 400'S BC we find  all the emotions:
WRATH  leading to murder is throughout all the Greek tragedies:We find it in 'Prometheus Bound" by Aeschylus, in "Medea" where she murders her children out of jealousy The following is the  murder and death  of Piram
AMPHORA WITH THE SCENE OF THE DEATH OF PIRAM 500BC

In 458 BC, we find hatred and love in "THE ORESTIA" BY AESCHYLUS
HEAD OF PENTHESILEIA, HEAD OF ARCHILLES CIRCA 200BC
HATRED AND LOVEwhen Archilles realizes he has killed a beautiful women, he falls in love. His right hand is entwined in her hair in a gentle stroking and cupping.  We see the thumb, the pinky and other finger lifting her head, an unusual gesture of tenderness.
                                                                              *
There is also a gentleness and LOVE in a stele for a dead pig.
FUNERARY STELE FOR A LOVABLE PIG, VICTIM OF A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT C200AD
.The pig was accidentally trampled on the way to perform at a fair. The owner had feelings for it.when it died.

GRIEF and PATHOS
In "Antigone" by Sophocles, a  sister mourns for her Brother. Also in a fresco in Pompeii:

WALL PAINTING SACRIFICE OF IPHIGENEIA, POMPEII 62AD
MOURNING
In 413 BC  - Euripides wrote " Iphigenia Among the Taurians."  Here Agamenon sacrifices his daughter and grieves in despair and guilt. This sense of mourning appears in "Antigone " by Sophocles as a sister mourns for her dead Brother.  This same emotion is found in a funerary stele:

LOVE     FUNERARY STELE A tenderness in the touching showing
love and affection for a family member.                                                                                                                  .

FUNERARY STELE

LUST   appears in  429BC in "Oedipus Rex" by Sophocles
when a son marries his Mother.Sexual exploits are the basis of the play "Lysistrata" by Aristophanes We find lust again in the sculpture "Leda and the Swan""
Zeus has fallen in love with Leda, Queen of Sparta.  He seduces her by turning into a swan, their offspring are Helen of Troy, Castor, and Pollux
RELIEF WITH THE AMOUROUS EMBRACE OF LEDA  AND THE SWAN 100-200--AD

                          PRESIDENT
DONALD J. TRUMP & MRS. TRUMP

I WENT TO THE INAUGURATION OF DONALD.J. TRUMP.
Gong to the Mall was a nightmare of long long lines, closed subway stops, blocked streets and
hours waiting in line to go through security.  But getting there and watching the big screen
was amazing .  The President got out of his car at the parade and waved and walked. The
experience was en masse, a wave of Americans united in attendance.
I went to 2 balls. I also visited the exquisite estate of PRESDIENT GEORGE WASHINGTON.
I learned that he manufactured and sold whiskey  and also sold fish from the Potomac River.
And finally I had brunch at the Trump Hotel, with Dr. Ekaterini Malliou of the US Department of Health,  a non-stop American voyage.
